Last Day

Today was the last day of my internship. Since I was really busy and forgot to uptade Monday and Tuesday, here's a little recap of what went on.
Monday after the intern meeting we worked on cleaning the lab up a little. I took a break and went across the hall to talk to Matt and Phil as usual, then did a little more work. For lunch I went home because my aunts came in from out of town to visit me... that was nice of them. When I got back we cleaned up the lab some more then changed around some things on our presentation before we turned it into Joe.
Tuesday we worked on our presentations pretty much all day. In the morning we just sat in the lab with Jesse and Sarah and presented to them because Lon was gone all day. We mostly talked about a few things that needed to be changed, like the Imaging Science cirruculum which was outdated because it has been recently changed. A few of us went out to lunch, then when we got back we presented in the actual auditorium to Jesse and Sarah again. My friend Andrew stopped in to say hi when he was on campus signing up for a few classes for this fall which was nice, he got to sit in a watch a little of our presentation.
Today was the presentation day. I have to say, it went pretty well. To all of my fellow interns: nice job. I was really impressed to see how much we all accomplished over the summer. The remote sensing group went last but that was ok because we had plenty of time to stop being nervous. Everyone seemed to enjoy our slides with the funny pictures on them. After the presentations I showed my mom around the labs a little then Karen, her dad, my mom and I all went to Friendly's for lunch.
Well seeing as the summer is over and this is my last ever blog entry, I would just like to say thanks to everyone at RIT's Imaging Science building. Special thanks to Lon, the undergrads, and my fellow remote sensing interns for making the summer so enjoyable and so worthwhile... it would not have been the same without you guys. I really enjoyed going to work every morning and spending time with everyone. This is an experience I will never forget. Thanks to Joe Pow and Bob Callens for giving me this opportunity, it has been a great summer. I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their summer, and my fellow interns enjoy their upcoming senior year.

This morning in the intern meeting Lon, Sarah and Jesse surprised me and walked in with a cake that Lon made for my birthday. Everyone had some... I've never had red velvet cake before and I must say I do like it. That was really nice of them... so thanks guys! :)
After the meeting I hung out with Steve, Phil and Matt in the other lab across the hall for a few minutes while I was waiting to get the work for the day from Lon. Then Karen and I did some cleaning of the lab and a new refridgerator that we got. Not too exciting. I left for a little while to go home because my aunts came from out of town to see my mom and I for our birthdays and to buy us lunch. When I got back, Sarah helped Karen and I load a whole bunch of pictures onto CD's that we could look through to pick out the best ones for our presentation. There were some really good pictures that we picked, and some really embarassing and funny ones to add some humor to our presentation. We basically worked on the power point for the rest of the afternoon until we left for the day. Monday we just need to run it by Lon and add a few minor finishing touches then we are good to go. Only three more days left... which is sad. It's been a lot of fun though.

My Day Off

Today I took the day off because I had to go to school and attend an all day workshop for a peer leadership class I will be taking this fall. So basically I missed out on measurements and the Dino BBQ... but I'll be back tomorrow.

Yesterday I forgot to update. In the morning we went to the meeting like always, then went out and collected some GPS waypoints around campus. That was actually pretty fun. Afterwards, we met Lon and the rest of the gang at Java's and hung out for a little while, then Caitlin, Karen and I went shopping for t-shirts at the bookstore. By the time we got back to the lab it was time for the end-of-summer remote sensing picnic. We all ate together in the fishbowl, then some people went outside and played volleyball in the grass all afternoon. Instead, Caitlin, Sarah and I stayed inside and worked on the power point presentation for Wednesday. It's looking really good, if I do say so myself.

Defense

This morning after the meeting I went downstairs to watch Emmit's defense. A lot of the stuff he was talking about went right over my head, but some of it I actually understood which surprised me. It was interesting to watch, and you can tell his presentation and research took a ton of time. After the defense we went and toured the nanotechnology lab over in the college of science... that was really neat. They have some cool machines and things there that I had never seen before. We went to lunch then came back and listened to Cory play his guitar as we worked on our presentations for next wednesday. I worked on the slide show until Lon left then went and joined in on the volleyball for a while, then said goodbye to Marek and Alvin and headed home.

Metadata Monday

Hmm this morning we went to the usual morning intern meeting. When that was over Karen and I went to get started on metadata, but we realized the laptop we were going to use didn't have excel. We found another computer and did metadata until lunch. Came back from lunch, we did some more data, took a break and then worked some more. After work Marek, Alvin, Sarah, Karen, John, his friend, and I went to Olive Garden for dinner... that was a good time. I'm excited for volleyball tomorrow.

Kodak

Today was the feildtrip to Kodak. That was actually a lot of fun. We got to test out the cameras and play around with the photo kiosk. They have some really cool new technology that I had never heard of. After the tour we went to Jimmy Mack's for lunch... that place was really good. It started to rain before we left but the walk back to the van wasn't very far and the rain wasn't very hard so no one minded too much. When we got back to RIT, Karen and I worked on typing in a bunch of metadata for Lon. That wasn't very fun.

CARY 500

Hmmm well today after the morning meeting Karen and I helped Lon unload his truck because he went shopping for stuff for the lab last night. He got a lot of useful stuff I must say. When we brought it all upstairs Lon had me electrically engrave his initials on to everything then put it all away in the tool cabinet. I finished then Sarah showed me how to use the CARY before she left. It sucks that she's gone tomorrow but its not that bad because we have a feildtrip in the morning anyways so we wouldn't get to see her a lot. After lunch I worked on a little bit of metadata in the CARY lab and did some other stuff for Lon. It really stinks that this is going to be over so soon, I really like it here and I love all the people. We all have so much fun together it doesn't even seem like work. It will be sad to leave everyone to go back to school.
